Having inaugurated another important project, the "Telugu School of Journalism and Mass communications", we are having good progress. We have pleasured to announce that the 1st Batch has completed its course and all five condidates have been able to get placements in the local Dailies.
Monthly assignment tests are conducted. The results are encouraging. The students visit the media forums at least once in a month. So far our students have visited Newspaper establishments (Eenadu, Hyderabad) and 5 press conferences.
For the purpose of acquainting the patrons, the objectives of the institution are given. |
The present-day world is the world of communication. No man or a group can survive in isolation. Only when we know about each other can we understand and co-exist peaceiully. And what can be a better way to achieve this goal than the media?
It has been an oft-repeated complaint that our community always gets a 'bad Press', meaning we don't get our true picture presented in the media. Any breach of peace; be it a bomb blast, a kidnapping or a hijack; the blame is put on this Islamic group or that Muslim organization. Who is responsible for this?
All these misconceptions about us are the result of the very few media practitioners we boast of. Even these representatives of Ummah are so off their mark that we are in no mood to cal 1 them as ours.
We are a free people. Ours is a democratic nation. The people and the leaders have to bear their responsibilities and rule the nation with truth and justice. We must endeavor to exemplify achieving peace and tranquility in all walks of life. Our aim is to contribute more than expect from others.
In such a situation the best solution would be to have media practitioners who not only follow the tenets and belief but practice them. But training them in ways and means to be an outstanding journalist / media practitioner is a business that requires not just finances but a well drawn-up plan.
It is here that we need your help. Here is a plan to see through our efforts:
The plan is to start a nine-month course in Mass Communication and Journalism, to be followed by a three-month stint in a media organization. The course will cover such topics as principles and practice of news and feature writing for the various media, presentation of news and documentaries, history and ethics of media and other related topics. The course will be run at a central place in
Hyderabad easily accessible by aspirants.
FACULTY
The running of the course will require at least one person to three persons to take care of the academics, at least three persons to run the administration and two who can take care of technical aspects. What is also required is equipment like computers, cameras (both moving and still), television set, electronic storage devices and furniture.
STUDENTS
Initially the intake will be restricted to only about a dozen students. Once the course gets going and we establish our identity the strength of students can be raised. There are also plans to offer a token scholarship (Rs. 1500 per every month) to these students as an incentive.
